Manasarovar school

In Nepal ASIA,  together with the help of many sponsors, supports the  Manasarovar school, giving more than 500 children the possibility of keeping alive their cultural roots. Today, however, the school is unable to cope with all the demands…

We have been working in Manasarovar school (located in Ramhiti Boudhanath, near Kathmandu, where a big Tibetan refugees community lives) since 1999.

The children enrolled at the school belong to the poorest families of the Tibetan refugees community.

Today, poverty is on the rise and the school is no longer able to cope with all the requests from the community. The costs for all children who apply are too high, so the school asked for help in order to be able to afford food, accommodation, heating, healthcare, teaching materials and much more, for all the students.

In recent years, some sponsor had the chance to go to visit the school and meet the children. Now their future depends on you, help them through a long distance sponsorship.

Currently  the children of Manasarovar are at home with their families. One of the problems is that most of the parents of these children live with what they earn day by day and now being unemployed they find themselves even more in difficulty than usual; moreover, many of the houses in which these families live are simple rooms. To date, we know that all children are safe and healthy. With our work and with long distance sponsorship we will try to limit the drastic economic consequences that there will be for these families.
This is why your help is even more precious right now.

Manasarovar School

This project is based on individual support: the supporter distance sponsors a child or a monk, with whom he/she can create a real and personal relationship through correspondence and travel to the place where the child or monk lives.

We have been working here since 1999 :

  • initially sponsored children were only six, now they are over 300 and many others need us;
  • Sponsors’ contribution helps the school to afford the basic expenses for children: school supplies, food, basic healthcare, clothes and heating.

But emergencies still remain…

Together we should continue providing:

  • food, accommodation and heating;
  • medical care;
  • teaching materials.

Children who live in the only Nepalese school where they can learn Tibetan culture need our help now.

The Manasarovar Educational Foundation is a no profit organization and a school founded in 1999 by two women who wanted to give to Tibetan refugees in Nepal the chance to receive an education based on their own traditions.

These women strongly believed that “culture is freedom” and they managed to establish an elementary school in Ramhiti Boudhanath, near Kathmandu, where a big Tibetan refugees community lives.

The name, Manasarovar, was inspired by the holy lake close to the Kailash mountain in Tibet, which is a feminine symbol in the Tibetan tradition.

The school staff encourages local families to support their children by sending them to school, explaining to them the value of a good education in the modern world.

The school is composed of many classrooms, offices and two canteens, plus a big playground. It offers three years of nursery school and five years of elementary school.

Playing is considered an important teaching method: children play sports, learn rhymes, read Tibetan tales and learn how to respect the environment planting trees and flowers.

It only takes 80 cents a day to cover the basic needs of a child, if you think about it… It is less than the cost of a cup of coffee.
