Yena school

Yena School is located inside Yena Monastery, which is close to a very small, poor and remote village named Wonbodo, Derge County, Sichuan Province (Kham Tibetan region, Eastern Tibet).

In 2014, one of the main lama of this monastery requested ASIA to build a primary school, offering the monastery’s territory, because he was aware that most of the children of the surrounding villages had to travel for many kilometres to go to school and many families preferred not to enrol them.

Moreover, the Lama wanted it to be a Tibetan school, so that children could have the chance to study their language and preserve their culture.

In 2014 ASIA started a project and built a wooden school of five rooms, three classrooms and two teachers’ rooms, in the traditional Tibetan style, using only local material.

Now the school is asking for a long-term support to help the poorest students’ families buying, every year, the necessary winter and summer school uniforms (which may be similar to the typical Tibetan monks’ robes), medical assistance, educational material, coverage for travel expenses.

It is therefore fundamental to start distance support for the children of this school to enable them to have a future, without forgetting their roots. You can help them too by your long distance sponsorship.

This project is based on individual support: the supporter distance sponsors a child or a monk, with whom he/she can create a real and personal relationship through correspondence and travel to the place where the child or monk lives.

We have worked here since 2014:

  • In 2015 we finished building a new school
  • We provided also the necessary equipment (tables, carpets, blackboards, furniture for the offices) and the basic educational material, and built the toilet building, a wall to protect the school and a playground.
  • We provide each child with school materials, food, primary medical care, and clothes.

Many children need our and your help…

Together, we must continue providing:

• food
• heating
• medical care
• school materials
• clothes

Children living in Yena school need our help. Choose long-distance sponsorship now!

Students are divided in the 3 classes and the main subject they learn is Tibetan language (grammar, handwriting, speaking) and culture.

Every month they have an exam and during special occasion, such us festivities or guests’ visits, they exhibit in traditional Tibetan performances.

It only takes 80 cents a day to cover the basic needs of a child, if you think about it… It is less than the cost of a cup of coffee.
