Ganchen Meri School

In Nepal, we support the Ganchen Meri School,  and thanks to the help of our supporters, we are giving a chance to the poorest children in the district.

The Ganchen Meri infant and elementary school is in a remote area of Dolpo, near the border with Tibet. The school can only be reached on foot or on horseback from the nearest small airport (Juphal).

The area is populated by a considerable Tibetan community, and the school has been created to give Tibetan mother-tongue children an education, enabling them to learn their language, history and culture.

In 2012 a 170 square metres of extension was completed at the school, equipped with desks, chairs, beds and kitchen and refectory facilities. The students were provided with pencils, pens, books and copybooks free of charge.

Now through long distance sponsorship, we want to provide long term and continuous help to the poorest children in this isolated area.

A child in this school is waiting for you: sign for a long distance sponsorship.

This project is based on individual support: the supporter distance sponsors a child or a monk, with whom he/she can create a real and personal relationship through correspondence and travel to the place where the child or monk lives.

We have been working here since 2012:

  • We have extended the school by 170 square metres with desks, chairs, beds, kitchen and refectory equipment
  • We provide each child with didactic material and stationery

Lots of children need our help and your help…

Together we have to keep on providing:

• heating
• medical care
• didactic material
• school uniforms
• blankets, pillows, mattresses
• covering transport expenses to and from the schools

The children living in the Ganchen Meri school need our help. Sign for your distance sponsorship now.

The history of the school is closely related to Drodulling Yungdrung Monastery and its lamas.
Due to the lack of formal education in the Tibetan language and traditions, with the risk of losing them forever, the Lama at this monastery, Geshe Tenzin Nyima, together with the local communities in the surrounding villages of Kaigaun, Thapa Gaon and Hurikot, has founded a boarding school for the poorest children, often orphans, in this area with little access to formal education.
A key element of the school is the teaching of the Bön religion, though the school is open to children of all religions.

It only takes 80 cents a day to cover the basic needs of a child, if you think about it… It is less than the cost of a cup of coffee.
